Lips

Lips shows a lipstick on your own photo before you buy it or put it on. Add a photo of your face, choose a Shade, from Nude and Coral to Red, Wine and Brown, then a Finish: Matte, Satin or Gloss. Only your lips change: your face, skin, expression and light stay as they are.

What it is good for

It is for anyone choosing a lipstick: before you buy one, or when you plan your makeup for a day that matters. A swatch on the back of your hand says little about how a shade looks next to your own skin, teeth and hair. Try Peach nude and Rose on the same photo for everyday wear, compare Red in Matte and in Gloss before an evening out, or see whether a deep shade such as Wine or Plum suits you before you spend money on one.

Tips for your photo

Face the camera, or turn slightly, and hold the phone at arm's length so your face and shoulders are in the frame. Daylight from a window or bright, even light indoors shows a shade closest to how it looks in person. Relax your mouth, closed or in a soft smile, and keep hair and hands away from it. Bare lips or a light balm give the clearest result. Skip filters and beauty modes: they change your skin, and the shade with it.

What it does not do

It makes a picture, a preview to try before the mirror. It keeps your face, features, skin and its depth, your expression, the light and the background, and changes only the colour and finish on your lips, along your own lip line. It never reshapes your lips or face. It names no brand, and a colour on a screen differs from one in the tube, so try a tester before you buy. It gives no advice on allergies or skin care.

Questions and answers

More answers in Help
Can I try lipstick on my own photo?

Yes. Add a photo of your face, choose a Shade and a Finish, and Petalface shows the lipstick on your lips, keeping the rest of your photo as it is.

What is the difference between Matte, Satin and Gloss?

Matte is flat and velvety, with no shine. Satin has a soft sheen, between matte and gloss, and Gloss is shiny and wet-looking. Try the same shade in each finish to compare them.

Which lip colour suits my skin tone?

Lips does not choose a shade for you: it shows the shades you pick on your own face. Try a few on the same photo, such as Nude, Mauve and Berry, and compare the results.

Is it free?

Yes. The free plan makes 3 designs a day, each with a watermark, and Pro makes up to 50 a day without it. Each shade you try counts as one design.
